Radio Amber Suspended on Renegade Retro

I know most listeners probably don't even pay attention to when these Amber Alert broadcasts run, at the top of every hour, but I felt I should explain why I have suspended running them, for those that are interested.

I signed RR up to broadcast these alerts when the Radio Amber project first started. As a parent, I felt it was an important service and was proud to take part in it.

However, over the last year it seems the people that run the Radio Amber project have seriously dropped the ball. All too often alerts aren't even broadcast. My system is set up to grab the alerts at the top of every hour. And most times it simply grabs the message that is in place for times that there is no alert. Yet, when viewing the radio amber website, I can see that an alert IS active. If no one's keeping the broadcasts updated, isn't that defeating the purpose of even HAVING a Radio Amber system? And then there is the case we have had the past 2.5 weeks, where the same Alert was being broadcast every hour, because no one changed it, either to the message when there IS no Alert, or to a new Alert. Yet looking at the Radio Amber website once again, I see that the Alert that is being broadcast was canceled over 2 weeks ago, and since then there have been several others that no one listening to RR or another Radio Amber participating station ever knew about.

When the same alert goes out every single hour for over 2 weeks straight (ignoring the fact that it had already been canceled) then the system loses any effectiveness at all because people either ignore it when it's the same over and over, or they tune the station out because they're tired of hearing it over and over.

I emailed my concerns to the Radio Amber project, and never received a response. As well as receiving no response, the Alert that had been broadcasting for 2 weeks was left unchanged. As far as I know, it could still be in place, still unchanged.

I applaud the idea behind Radio Amber. I was proud to be a part of it. But until they get things back on track, I can't leave RR as part of a broken, ineffective system. It doesn't do the children any good at all when the system doesn't work, or works half-assed.

Metal Shop August 6, 2010

Next Friday (August 6th) Metal shop will include a "Babes That rock" Segment. Highlighting bands fronted, or comprised entirely of females.

Also, New tracks were added to the library, and they will be scattered throughout the show.
